On my way to Bali with Travelar!

There are only two places on earth that I am forever wanting to be at - Japan (of course) and the beach.

I am particularly fond of anywhere with a beach, really. In fact, despite my hate-hate relationship with the great big sun, the ONLY time when I don't mind soaking up the sunbeam is when my toes are happily wriggling in the warm sands by the beach. Absolutely love beaches so much that I could literally stay by the sea side from morning till the night. Sleepovers by the beach sounds really lovely, no?

On nights like this after a long day at work in the concrete jungle that is Kuala Lumpur, I like to take some time off reality to suft the many travel sites for vacation and getaway deals. Dream a little, you know. Stumbled upon this site one fine day - - by recommendation of Nuffnang. This site offers some of the best holiday deals around, no joke. I really like how the original prices are displayed so everyone knows exactly how massive the deals are. Look at this, a four-star luxury private villa for just RM334 a night, original rates are priced at RM912. That's nearly a third of the original price and a whole lot of savings that can go right into the cocktails-by-the-beach fund. Sounds about right to me.

and then there's this. Surfing around Travelar with more than eight tabs open simultaneously (multitasking at its best!) I found out about this little paradise called the Kuta Beach. Kuta Beach is a beautiful seaside village located south of Denpasar, the capital of Bali, Indonesia. C'mon, when you bring up Bali, there's no escaping their legendary beaches that draw tourists from all over the world. Nevermind that, just LOOK at the breathtaking images below and tell me how can you NOT want to impulsively head over to the airport right this moment and purchase a one-way ticket straight to Denpasar International Airport?

Wipe that drool off. Don't you wish you have a personal Pintu Suka Hati at your disposal at this moment? I suppose IS the closest thing to a Pintu Suka Hati in this modern world. After doing a bit of intensive research on quick holiday getaways to Kuta Beach, there's one place that I'd totally wouldn't mind staying over. That is the Grand Mega Resort and Spa, a four-star boutique hotel across the road from one of Bali's largest shopping malls, the Mal Bali Galleria. Ahem ahem. Shopping mall. Ahem.

I'm all tingling with anticipation now. Desperately want to go to Bali with Travelar because I am absolutely sure that it will be the ultimate dream-getaway-comes-true. Who needs Eat, Pray, Love when you've got Sun, Sea, Spa (among many attractions) at your disposal in Bali. I've got my bags packed, my sunscreen well stocked, my DiGi roaming plan all set, and my worries shelved.

Take me there already why don't you?(^_-)★

The first day back in Kuantan was certainly very productive! Thinking back, I don't think my vocabulary is extensive enough to describe that feeling of being home, the familiarity of everything and the great great great friends that I spent the day with. Even after twenty years of living in Kuantan there are still new discoveries to be made, which makes the entire experience even more memorable. From now on, if I ever visit Pantai Pelindung again I'll always think of that beautiful evening spent with Faraha, Terri, Aqid, Alwan and Hazmi. I love it more because they're such great friends that they actually layan my ridiculous whims like waking up to for brunch at Hoi Yin, rescheduling responsibilities to stay out a little longer, cracking heads to suggest where to go yumcha next and letting me buy a bottle of bubbles to bring to the beach. Who needs anything else when you've got friends like these ♥

Continuing from my previous post, we left the beach after our late dinner and on the way back to Faraha's car, it starting pouring real heavy that by the time we reached the car, we were soaking wet. It was really hilarious, because the rain just got heavier and heavier the nearer we are to the car! So ridiculous hahahaha and we were going all "omg no no omg kasut omg are we there yet"  all the way while trying desperately to shield ourselves from the rain. Got back safely to Faraha's aunt's home nearby and after a hot shower we went straight to bed to wake up early for a beautiful morning by the beach.

The weather was in tip top condition the next morning. We got dressed as comfortable as possible with hardly any makeup (sunblock perlu okay!) and went straight to the Tanjung Api jetty for some quick nasi minyak (my first time there. SO DELICIOUS.) breakfast before heading to Teluk Chempedak with our mat, pillows, umbrella, books and more importantly, fab sunglasses. Couldn't resist taking a longer walk to Burger King for some ice cream and juice to get us through the morning. Oh and a bottle of liquid soap to feed the wind with some prismatic bubbles! The morning breeze was was simply delicious as we walked all the way to Teluk Tongkang for a little more peace and quiet. Set up our space near the rocks beneath some shades and behold, this is the magnificient view that greeted us.

We enjoyed our desserts and laid back to read while the melodic waves play their music. Brought a familiar book along with me on this trip because I didn't really want to deal with getting acquainted to a new book. Wanted to read a book that I know by heart and I know I love. That made that morning even more perfect. My attention span was rather short though and before I know it I was blowing bubbles to the wind and exploring the rocks nearby. I love playing near the rocks by the beach. Makes everything so much more interesting what with the little nooks and crannies in between them. You'll never know what you might just find snuggled in a shallow puddle underneath the huge rocks! Luckily for me, Teluk Tongkang has got all of that prepared for me.

I loved it so much that I went back to the rocks again for a second round of exploring and chasing the little crabs that lived buried in the sands under my feet. You know I've never had a good relationship with the sun but on that day, nothing matters. Soaked up all the sun and it felt so fucking good. At one point all I did was sat on a rock kicking my feet at the warm puddle of water pooled around the rock. Never have I felt such intense pleasure just by doing nothing in particular. My skin was turning red from all the baking so I had to go back to our spot (Faraha was borderline napping at the point) to apply some sunblock and this time, I know I should bring my bottle of liquid bubble with me back to the rocks. Off you go little bubbles, have all the fun and frolic by the beachside that I love so much!

That little rainbow umbrella is exactly where we parked ourselves that morning.

Alas, all good things have to come to an end. Soon it was getting warmer and the sun was growing fierce. It was time to leave our little temporary sanctuary and go grab some lunch please hahahaha we packed our bags, said goodbye to the beautiful beach and had a hard time deciding where to go for lunch! But let's stop and savour the last few minutes by the beach!

Was feeling a little fancy so we headed to Crocodile Rock but sadly it was closed. Decided to go for Sherwood instead - it was my first time there actually hahaha have always thought that I could never afford Sherwood but turns out it wasn't that expensive nor as fancy as I thought after all. Either that, or my buying power have leveled up since high school days. Fuck yeah we had a FEAST, enough to comfortably feed another village or two. We had mushroom soup, chicken wings, seafood risotto and huge sausages with the MOST DELICIOUS ROSTI ON EARTH. So mad yummy our brains exploded with potato overload. Got so full but just couldn't stop nibbling on the potato rosti while saying "Beh sure will like this, Beh sure like!"  Sherwood was also rather generous with the mussels, clams, squid and prawns for the risotto. We really couldn't finish everything sigh. Another third person there would be perfect to finish up this meal!

As if we're not stuffed enough, Faraha's family invited us over for homemade desserts urgh how could I possibly resist. Malay desserts are my weaknesses hahahaha plus everyone in the family are so warm and welcoming, it felt real nice. Her grandmother made some real legit puding buih (a specialty from Pekan!) and those caramel puddings too, oh yums. We were so tamak hahaha that was a real ketamakan trip with my ketamakan buddy. Faraha, we're so bad for each other. Hell, that was a fantastic trip back home though. Everything was perfect. The friends, the family, the fun times, the quiet times, the rain, the sun, the beach, the food, every single thing was perfect.

Thank you thank you thank you ♥

Ahh I don't feel motivated to be here at all but I really got to do this! #determined

Two weekends ago I took a short trip back to sweet ol' Kuantan with Faraha. The last trip back was during the General Elections, quite a while back ago that's for sure! This time though, there was no particular reason to go home. We desperately needed a quick getaway from the bustling city life to a quiet place where we can enjoy the sea breeze with no strings attached. Kuantan was that light at the end of the tunnel for the both of us.

It's quite funny really. Faraha didn't exactly grew up there throughout the years but she has tons of family members living in Kuantan, while I grew up there for more than twenty years and didn't have a single soul there to call family. At least, not blood-related ones. When I announced my return to dear homeland in the Kuantan Gang whatsapp group everybody said they won't be in town wtf company trips, marathons and whatnots wtf damn potong stim please. Nobody was even sympathetic celaka betul, luckily Terri's in town!

Slept over Faraha's place in Ampang on a Friday night and we took off early next morning. Not before dropping by McDonalds to try the new Brekkie Wrap and it was SO DAMN GOOD. Delicious chicken sausage with soft scrambled egg and warm melted cheese that oozes off the tortilla wrap when you take a bite. So incredibly yummy we were all oooh aaahs with every bite hahaha I'm also proud that I didn't fell asleep throughout the journey back home and as soon as we arrived, we headed straight for Hoi Yin though it was already near noon. Thank goodness it was business as usual and we had our curry noodles at the back area with Terri and Aqid. How nostalgic, it was real nice to be back again. Best of all, the owner auntie remembered me and my orders yeay!

Didn't know what to do with ourselves after the long lunch so we jumped into Terri's car and took a short drive to the beach. Like, literally a twenty seconds (YES, SECONDS) drive simply because we were too lazy to walk the weather was too hot. As Faraha and I enjoyed the breeze and the sights, Terri and Aqid were saying that it's been a while since they came to the beach in the daytime hahahaha which is perfectly normal la. In all my twenty years in Kuantan, we rarely go to the beach during the day but nowadays when I tell people that they think it's weird hahahaha now that I'm living in KL though, I'll take the beach any time of the day, no arguments. Teluk Chempedak is beautiful! Felt so incredibly good to be home again!

After taking a walk to the other side, uploading some pictures on Instagram haha and hanging around a bit, we decided to head back home to freshen up, rest a little before a little picnic later in the afternoon. Then, it started to rain, just as we're going around town buying food for the picnic! Sigh, only in Kuantan do you get to go to several difference places to run errands and buy food in less than half hour. Even manage to squeeze in a quick cendol break at Mustafa Cendol. The other picture was taken at the usual teatime haunt - a stall next to the police station at Kampung Peramu selling lotsa yums like sata, otak-otak, keropok, fried prawns, fried calamari rings and many more Malay snacks! We stopped by to pack some food for the picnic!

Anyways, Faraha was going to take us to this Pantai Pelindung beach near Beserah that nobody else knew about. Never even heard of this beach before! It was raining though and after a while the rain slowed down to a drizzle, so we decided to go for it anyways.

It was so quiet at this beach, just the sounds of waves and us making noises taking silly pictures. Thanks Aqid for bringing your camera for our shoot hahaha real nice. When it started getting dark we had no idea where to go next and we made the Amiruls pitch us new places to hang. They came up with Kula Cakes. Hipster enough, let's go! We followed the boys and they brought us to the big road leading to the old bus station (there, that T'jantek road) and behold, in a small corner with only a few rustic tables and chairs, Kula Cakes by Lila Wadi.

We shared a mango cheesecake, red velvet cake and the selasih pandan drinks.

The drinks were perfectly refreshing - must try! The mango cheesecakes are actually lined with fresh mango slices and the red velvet cream cheese packs a punch, not too bad at all. As we sat just outside at the entrance and chatted, more and more people started streaming in to purchase cakes. Figured it must be our irresistable hipster cool vibes that are drawing the crowd in, trendsetters kan hahahaha thinking back, it was only so quiet when we got there because it was friggin' dinner time and who gets cakes for dinner anyways. Speaking of dinner, we continued our ketamakan streak and went for the kill at Teluk Chempedak. There's this new place by the beach that sells chicken chop fish n chips and such from RM5 onwards (!!!) so we HAD to try it out just to see what's the hype's all about. There were so many people though so we had to really line up, but it was actually pretty alright. Great portions, decent taste and quick service. It rained, we talked a lot, made Aqid blush hehe and went back to Faraha's aunt's place for a great night's sleep. Ok that's it. Next chapter next!

Can't wait for Octoberfest Malaysia with GAB!

Didn't you hear? I am terribly fond of the Germans.

I've got German family members in Koblenz and then there's that legendary annual Octoberfest celebration that has its German origins but thankfully, celebrated all throughout the world even in good ol' Malaysia! Now that September is all dead and gone, let's cheerfully welcome the new month of October with endless gaiety and fun fun fun. Especially so when the folks from Guinness Anchor Berhad (GAB) are celebrating together with the launch of a special edition one litre ceramic Octoberfest Mug just for those discerning beer drinkers who enjoy GAB's iconic brews . Cheers to that. Bring forth all the Paulaner!  (#´ー´)旦

It's amazing that Octoberfest started off as a simple wedding celebration back in 1810 has now evolved into a global celebration  bringing together no less than 7 million visitors consuming over 7 million litres of quality beer. We're all so familiar with award-winning beers like Tiger, Guinness and Heineken but did you know that from the beer powerhouse that is GAB, there is also that celebrated official Paulaner Octoberfest bier that is EXCLUSIVELY available only this season. Why the exclusivity? Well all Octoberfest beers can ONLY be brewed within the city limits of Munich, Germany and must conform to the strict Bavarian Purity Law that limits ingredients used in beer productions in Germany. Definitely keeps you wanting more!

Even the Paulaner that was first brewed by monks from the Paulaner monastery (oooh) in 1634 is still considered the youngest of all Octoberfest Beers - at 380 years old! In fact, Paulaner Octoberfest Bier is a lager, NOT a wheat beer, and is actually a tad stronger than the others. Now there's your fun fact of the day hahahaha! To make it all so much better for us, Octoberfest Malaysia has lots on store - series of themed parties, contests, promotions and many more exciting activities set to make it a celebration to remember!

I know right, exciting stuff there. Wait until you hear this - at all those events mentions above, you stand the chance to bring home the special edition Octoberfest Mug with a limited edition metal lid. Drop by early because you definitely want to be an early bird for this one here! Long live Paulaner! Long live Octoberfest Malaysia! #WAITWHAT #MACAMYES #MEMANGYES #TUNGGUAPALAGI

Need more information on what's going downnnnnnnn at the Octoberfest Malaysia 2013? No place better to check out than their Facebook page here - . Go for it. Don't miss out on the most happening celebration in the coming month. Don't say I didn't tell you either about all the good stuff! Remember to drink sensibly too because GAB says so!
